A police officer died Thursday morning after a car dragged him during a traffic stop in Georgia, authorities said.
The driver of the vehicle, Ansy Dolce, age 29, of Cherokee County, was shot and killed by an officer in the incident, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said.
The state agency has not released the name of slain Holly Springs police officer or any other details. A briefing has been scheduled for 2 p.m. ET to provide updates on the incident.
“At this point, we are still working to gather details and will provide updates as we learn more,” the GBI said in a tweet.
Police in Holly Springs, a suburb about 37 miles northwest of Atlanta, said in a statement that the department is “in the process of notifying the officer’s family members and attempting a positive identification of the suspect.”
Motorists are urged to avoid a stretch of Hickory Road as authorities continue their investigation.
The area from New Light to Little roads is expected to be closed, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office said.
